About Us

The Charette Foundation is a distinguished and compassionate private foundation operating under the provisions of IRC §501(c)(3), fully exempt from federal and state taxes. Our story is one that embodies the spirit of generosity, dedication, and philanthropic commitment, stemming from the legacy of Robbie Gail Charette Owsley, her beloved late husband, Michael M. Owsley, and her mother, Helen Charette.

Since its inception in 2015, our foundation has been unwavering in its mission to uplift and support the community, with our official establishment following in 2019. Our primary focus is on extending a helping hand to Texans facing various challenges, by providing crucial financial assistance and fostering growth in the realms of charity, religion, science, and education.

At the heart of our initiatives lies an unwavering dedication to enhancing lives and shaping a brighter future for those in need. Our efforts have borne fruit in numerous ways, ranging from literary and educational support to the creation and maintenance of meaningful communal spaces. Notably, we take pride in the establishment of the Michael M. Owsley Memorial Playgrounds and Prayer Garden, a serene haven within Brenham’s Fireman’s Park that honors cherished memories and promotes communal healing.

Through thoughtful contributions, we have directly aided the Brenham Police Department, demonstrating our commitment to public safety and community welfare. Our support has encompassed a wide spectrum, from acquiring police canines to providing essential resources such as "Go Bags" and emergency supplies to patrol officers. Additionally, we've been honored to participate in the Brenham Police Department’s Blue Santa Program, ensuring that area children and families experience the joy of specially selected gifts during the holiday season.

In the spirit of collaboration and unity, we've aligned ourselves with essential community causes, including partnering with Adam's Angels through the BPD’s No-Shave November fundraisers and actively participating in the Brenham Fire Department’s annual Fireman's Fiesta fundraiser. For the past four decades, the Charette family has consistently lent their support to firefighters and law enforcement through financial donations, volunteering, and prayers. Other contributions have ranged from the acquisition of the Antique Fire Hose to scholarships for individuals impacted by childhood cancer, channeled through the Gilferd R. Charette Memorial Scholarship Program.

Recently, The Charette Foundation has extended its embrace to the Head Start program in Brenham, exemplifying our commitment to nurturing education and growth. By providing learning supplies and books, we are actively contributing to building strong reading foundations for children, ensuring a brighter and more promising future for the next generation.
